Community Outreach
The PHE Outreach Program was created to support local educational/musical groups, promote the use of handbells in church and community involvement. Because many have given to support our organization, it's our desire to give back to the community by investing in groups who have expressed a special need.
We are looking for Friends of the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble who will assist us with our future outreach projects. If you're interested in helping support this outreach, consider becoming a Friend and designating your donation for "PHE Outreach."
2009–10 Handchime Grant
Our outreach program was directed to the regional educational community. An add-on set of chimes was donated to Vicki Baumgartner, who works in an inner-city ministry in Berwick, PA. She has had a two-octave set of handchimes, and the add-on set has allowed her to continue and expand her outreach to children and adults from underprivileged and dysfunctional backgrounds.
2008–09 Handchime Grant
Our outreach project was directed to the regional educational community. A two-octave set of handchimes was donated to Rockville Learning Group, Honeybrook, PA. Kimberly Williamson was the teacher who accepted the award.
The Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble will also provide a workshop, training, and mentoring to the school, teachers, and students.
2005–06 Community Outreach
Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble adopted the handbell program at the First United Methodist Church in Slidell, LA.
Their entire church was devasted from the floodwaters of hurricane Katrina. Although they were able to rescue their 5-octave set of Schulmerich bells, the bells were severely damaged and in need of total refurbishment. Their bells are the only items that we salvaged from their church.
The Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble was able to raise and donate a little over $3,500 to help in the church's effort to rebuild their handbell program.
